July 2025 – Harmony Centre for Community Living is pleased to announce the addition of a new 2025 Ford Transit wheelchair-accessible vehicle to its transportation fleet.
The vehicle represents an important investment in accessible transportation and will enhance the organization’s ability to support individuals in attending medical appointments, participating in community programs, accessing employment opportunities, and enjoying recreational and social activities throughout the Red Lake district and surrounding communities.
“Reliable transportation is essential to community inclusion,” said Executive Director Jennifer Parsons of the purchase. “For many of the individuals supported by Harmony Centre, accessible transportation removes barriers and creates opportunities to participate more fully in community life. The addition of this vehicle will help ensure that individuals can access the services, supports, and experiences that contribute to their health, independence, and quality of life.”
The Ford Transit has been specially equipped to accommodate up to two individuals who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices, providing a safe, comfortable, and dependable transportation option. The vehicle’s increased capacity and accessibility features will support the growing transportation needs of the organization and the individuals it serves.
“This vehicle represents more than transportation—it represents opportunity, inclusion, and connection,” continued Parsons. “Accessible transportation plays a critical role in helping individuals participate in their communities, maintain important relationships, and access the services they need. We are proud to continue investing in resources that support independence and community engagement.”
The acquisition of the vehicle was made possible through a combination of community support and government funding. Over several years, Harmony Centre for Community Living worked diligently to raise funds through community fundraising initiatives and generous private donations, securing approximately half of the funds required for the purchase. The remaining portion was provided through funding from the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS).
This collaborative investment reflects a shared commitment to improving accessibility, promoting community inclusion, and ensuring individuals supported by Harmony Centre have access to safe and reliable transportation.
The organization extends its appreciation to the funding partners, supporters, and community members whose contributions help make investments such as this possible.
