Residential Support
Community Participation
Supporting adults with developmental disabilities to live independently, with flexible staff support tailored to individual needs and goals.
About the Program
The Community Participation program supports adults with developmental disabilities to take part in meaningful, inclusive activities within their community. The program is designed to promote independence, personal growth, social connection, and overall well-being by supporting individuals to explore interests, build skills, and participate fully in community life.
Community Participation services are person-centred and flexible, recognizing that each individual has unique strengths, goals, preferences, and support needs. Supports are guided by the individual’s Individual Support Plan (ISP) and focus on enhancing quality of life while respecting choice, dignity, and self-determination.
Participants are supported to engage in a wide range of activities that may include recreational, educational, cultural, volunteer, and skill-building opportunities. Staff work alongside individuals to encourage active participation, build confidence, and foster meaningful relationships within the community.
Supports may include assistance with daily planning, transportation, community navigation, social interaction, communication, and the development of life skills such as budgeting, decision-making, and self-advocacy. Wherever possible, supports are provided in natural community settings rather than segregated environments.
The Community Participation program also emphasizes health, safety, and wellness. Staff provide appropriate supervision and support to ensure individuals can participate safely while balancing positive risk-taking that supports growth and independence.
Through this program, Harmony Centre for Community Living works to reduce social isolation, strengthen community connections, and promote inclusion by supporting individuals to participate in activities that are meaningful to them and valued by the broader community.
